We run various programs : ending gender-based violence, protecting the land, and building youth leadership. All three matter. None of them is the whole story on its own

Different programs. Equal footing.

Indigenous Youth & Girls Empowerment

Run by young people from Samburu, for Samburu. Cultural preservation, sport (football, basketball, running, martial arts), and mentorship all sit here. Girls take up leadership roles they’d rarely get elsewhere. Every cohort leader is indigenous, young, and from this community.

Climate & Environmental Action

Samburu is drying out. Grazing land that supported families for generations is turning to dust, and it hits the community first. We run community tree nurseries, organize clean-ups across Samburu, and work alongside the Kenya Forest Service on biodiversity and habitat restoration.

Ending Gender-Based Violence

Girls in Samburu face real risks: gender-based violence, FGM, and period poverty that pushes them out of school. The Ubunifu Cohort trains young women in hands-on martial arts, real technique, drilled until it’s muscle memory. We run open conversations in schools about FGM and reproductive health. And through the Maa Pad Bank Project, we’re building a menstrual hygiene center in Maralal.

Our Mission

Our mission is to create a more equitable and just society where all women, girls, and youth can thrive. We believe that by providing access to education, healthcare, economic opportunities, and platforms for cultural expression, we can help them reach their full potential and become agents of change within their communities. We strive to create a space where young people can develop life skills, build confidence through sports, and connect with their cultural heritage, ensuring that valuable traditional knowledge is passed down to future generations.

Our Vision

We envision a future where every girl in the society thrives in a safe, supportive, and period-positive environment. Free from violence, environmental degradation, and the limitations of period poverty, they are empowered leaders who champion their health, advocate for social justice, and contribute to a more sustainable future for themselves, their communities, and Kenya.

Who We Serve

We work with specific people: indigenous women, youth, and girls of Samburu County. Samburu communities face specific, well-documented challenges high rates of FGM, child marriage, and gender-based violence, alongside a changing climate straining the pastoralist life many families depend on.

Programs built for a different context don’t fit here. Ours are built by people who live it, for the community they belong to.
