The aftermath of elections often brings about a complex wave of emotions and challenges, particularly for young women. Recognizing their unique vulnerabilities, The Brilliant Feminine Organization, in collaboration with Hisia youth group CBO,we were able to host a two-day empowerment session in Likoni sub-county.

A Space for Healing and Growth
The event provided a platform for young women to openly discuss the emotional, physical, and social impacts of post-election related issues. Through interactive girl-to-girl and women-to-women sessions, participants explored a range of topics, including:
- Life Before and After Elections: Understanding the socio-political context and its impact on their lives.
- Self-Care and Grooming: Building self-esteem and confidence through personal grooming and well-being practices.
- Self-Mediation Techniques: Developing coping mechanisms for stress and emotional challenges.
- Adulting 101: Navigating the transition to adulthood, including financial management, relationships, and career planning.
- Non-Violent Conflict Management: Learning peaceful strategies to address disagreements and conflicts.
- Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV): Understanding SGBV, prevention strategies, and support systems.
- Building Positive Relationships: Fostering healthy relationships and communication skills.
A Collaborative Effort
This initiative was made possible through the generous support of Search for Common Ground Kenya, under the #UchaguziBilaBalaa program funded by the European Union in Kenya. Our partnership with Human Rights Agenda (HURIA), Muslims for Human Rights (MUHURI), Ijara Women for Peace, and the local youth group Hisia was instrumental in reaching and empowering young women in Likoni.

Empowered Women, Empowered Community
The sessions were facilitated by experienced professionals and mentors who created a safe and supportive environment for participants to share their experiences, learn new skills, and build resilience. The positive energy and appreciation expressed by the participants highlighted the significance of such platforms in addressing the unique challenges faced by young women during post-election periods.

Empowering young women is not just about surviving challenges; it’s about thriving in the face of adversity. By providing them with the tools and knowledge they need, we are investing in the future of our communities.
